Day 7 at Otterbein

Hours: 7.5 Total Hours: 52.5

Today, Jane was out of the office, so I had a list of things to do. I started with a Usability Pre-Survey, to identify trouble areas of the Library Website. Asking basic things, like do you use the website, do you have trouble with any part of the website, is the website easy to use, etc. and ending with asking if they were interested in helping us test the website.

Next, I worked on the Usability test itself. Borrowing from my research, I came up with twenty questions – ten for student testers and ten for faculty testers. Covering simple things like finding a book, to more complicated things like LibGuides and reserving course materials and rooms.

I took a quick break to skim the library website, looking for Jargon. Words that make sense to career librarians, but that the casual student may have no clue about. I only found a handful – industry terms like the aforementioned LibGuide and acronyms like ELF and OPAL.

Next, I moved on to creating a Benchmark Report for the Digital Commons. I collected the stats Jane had sent me and organized the data. I created a two top ten charts – one for departments, and one for individual papers. I made charts for special collections, and for all the academic departments. I also made a special report for the Mathematics Department, as they have had the highest rate of download for any set of papers in the Digital Commons.

At the end of the day, I sent this all to Jane, and checked out the Google Analytics stats for the DC @ Otterbein.
