Today, I finished the last approval and indexing of the Annual Reports and began the African American Collection photos from the Ohio History Conncetion. I started with the C.W. Bryant Collection that I had sorted yesterday. First,I created a new collection in ContentDM’s Project Client. Next, I put all the singles into one folder, for batch import. Once they were imported, I added the metadata from the provided spreadsheet. As I added metadata for the first item, I also edited the base template with fields that would remain the same for the entire C.W. Bryant collection. After I completed metadata for all the single images, I added all the compound objects for import. These were mostly compound because the backside of the photos had writing on them, so I imported them as postcard objects to preserve their meaning as a two-sided object and not two separate objects. Once imported, I then finished the metadata, but did not upload because I wanted Aaron to double-check them first.
Next, I moved onto the Nimrod Allen collection. Again, I had to sort the compound objects into folders, and the singles into one folder for import. I created a new project for this collection, to make metadata entering and checking easier. Having a basic idea of how metadata for these collection is organized, I created the metadata template next. Then, I again imported the singles first, as they import faster. Then added their metadata, and then imported the compound objects. I ran out of time, however, waiting for this import to finish. I am looking forward to tech support adding new RAM to the machines.
