Upon arrival, I noticed a couple of the files from one of my sets had caused errors, so I fixed them and finished the small batch imports. Then I added all the metadata to them and set them to upload.
Next, I moved on to the last small batch, which had seemed much bigger by image numbers, but was really only about 33 items when all the compounds had been sorted. The Lawrence collection got it’s metadata and then uploaded with the rest, for approval and indexing.
Now, I had the last four sets, all fairly large. The Godman Guild was next, over 100 items, so I created a project just for it. I got it all imported, metadata added, uploaded, approved and indexed. The last three sets, however, were missing metadata, because some of the files were hidden inside other folders.
I started with the YMCA, as it was missing the least amount of metadata. I had to read through the files to create it, but it was mostly promotional material, so it was much easier than I feared. Only one image had to be resized for import, so that was helpful, too. I used the small batch project because it wasn’t terribly large as some of the others, once the compounds were gathered together.
Next was the NAACP collection. In this case, almost all of it was in a hidden folder, so I had a lot of metadata to created. Fortunately, most of the objects were all on the same topic – a financial scandal in the late 60s – so it made my job a bit easier. I did not get all the way through it, though, before it was time to leave, so that one will have to wait for next week.
